A regular part of any shrine – Buddhist or Hindu – are these Ganesh Pha Yant cloths featuring Ganesh the elephant – the God of Obstacles (placing and removing).
Though the god is Hindu, Ganesh is still important in Thailand as many Thais recognize the power of Ganesh to block goals or clear the way for prosperity. It isn’t uncommon to see university students in Bangkok making promises to Ganesh to pass a test or get a job, and then performing some task if the wish is given.
