Colorful Nong Kwak Statue (Item 2010a)
Nong Kwak is the Buddhist "money coming in", or business
prosperity deity. There are many types of statues in various poses portraying
Nong Kwak (Nong Gwak, Nongwak) but nearly always she will have a hand that
appears to be waving. In Thailand when someone waves like this it is actually
calling someone to "come here". So, Nong Kwak is calling customers into the
business so it prospers.

With this Nong Kwak she is also kneeling and calling in
customers to the business. She has a pot of money on her left thigh.
Chinese love Nong Kwak and frequently you'll see her
statue in their businesses. I've seen this all over Thailand as well as in
Honolulu, Hawaii. |

Nong Kwak Sitting on Pot of Money (Item 2010c)
This is a really well crafted statue that I'm still
considering buying for us here at home. It's well made and unique - I've seen
nothing like it in the 5 years I've been in Thailand. This Nong Kwak statue is
very detailed and the quality of the brass appears higher than most brass
statues I see - which are obviously mixed with other materials. There are 2 of
these at the temple - if you want it - please tell us quickly before someone
buys them. |

Ganesh (Item 2010d) Hindu god,
son of Shiva. Ganesh is widely called upon before someone attempts to do
anything. Believers ask for Ganesh's blessing before attempting to do difficult,
or even mundane things. Ganesh is the "remover of obstacles" - who sometimes, in
his wisdom, places obstacles that lead to the spiritual growth of the
individual. Ganesh is widely revered in India and Thailand. |
Cho Chok (Item 2010e) Cho Chok
is the most famous first follower of Buddha. He is part of the original group of
followers - the first Sangha (family, students of Buddha). He is freqently
depicted as a man from the jungle with a walking cane, and wrapped in a tiger
cloth. He has a long beard and usually a hat.
Here in Thailand at Wat Tum Sua (Tiger Cave Temple) you
can see a large statue of Cho Chok at step 875 on the way up the mountain
shrine. |
