Fake Thai Amulets, Thailand Scams, Ebay Scams

We just spent the last 2 hours looking at eBay for Thai amulets. Wow… it’s frightening what has happened there. We don’t usually sell anything on eBay – we have tried in the past, but we don’t understand so much how to sell there. I think we’re better just to have our own amulet site and sell Thai Buddhas and other sacred amulets on our own here and at our other sites – AllBuddhas.com, ThaiAmuletSales.com.

What we found was really quite sad. Amulets we sell here for $30 to $90 USD are being sold on eBay for $150 to $400 USD. These are exactly the same amulets as we have… we know this because we have been selling amulets for 4 years and there are no secrets in the industry. Every amulet seller knows where to get the amulets from.

We saw ebay sellers calling their gold colored amulets – PURE 22K gold poured and crafted. Unbelievable really, when the price of gold these days is at $1,600 USD per ounce… the amulets at the size they were, would have been selling for far less than the current price of gold. Does that make sense?

No, of course not. The amulets are not pure gold and we are 100% on that… do you know why?

There ARE NO pure gold amulets of that type made in Thailand. Really, there aren’t any made.

The only pure gold amulet you will see in Thailand is shaped like a coin – it can be big or small, but usually no bigger than a 10 THB coin or so. Sometimes bigger – yes.

But, there are no solid gold figurines of Buddha being sold in Thailand that we have EVER seen. They just don’t exist.

Likewise, there are VERY few silver Thai amulets – meaning, made of pure silver… the reason is… Buddha amulets are supposed to be made of gold – gold plating, gold paint, whatever, but the color of Buddha is always supposed to be gold. So, when you see solid silver Buddha anything – it is likely not made at a temple.

We sell only a couple of silver colored Buddhas and we were surprised to find them. I don’t know why they were made, but westerners love the silver Buddhas and we can never find enough of them.

The ebay seller that was selling “Solid Gold Poured BUDDHAS” had 12,000+ perfect feedbacks… now, how can that possibly be?

It’s because nobody cracks open their amulet to look. If they did, what would they find?

Usually the amulets that are made in Thailand are made of a metal like bronze, brass, copper, tin, pewter, or iron. They are then either gold plated, or painted gold.

Again, there are no solid gold Buddha figurine amulets in Thailand – that we have seen.

Likewise the cases of amulets are almost never solid gold.

WHY?

The case is to protect the amulet. Gold is very weak… it is like lead. It dings and scratches VERY easily. It does not make a good case.

There ARE solid silver cases though – which are a little bit harder, and can be quite beautiful. We have some.

Typically the cases are gold plated or dipped. We have both.

If you are buying amulets at eBay – please stop. I was going to say, “Be careful” – but, there is no way to be careful. I am sure the amulets we looked at today were almost entirely – fakes. They were not bought at the temple. They were not worth anything near what they were listed for sale as.

Much better for you to come to Thailand yourself and choose amulets from a temple… Or, find a seller that gets amulets from the temple – like we do.

There is no other way to guarantee you have authentic amulets that are worth what you paid. Truly… I wish it was different, but there are scammers on ebay like we cannot believe… and it’s sad to see such a thing because Buddhism is a such a great way of life.

Sad to see people take advantage of others – in the name of Buddha, and Buddhism.

Good luck to you, metta, and good karma!

Re: Us Buying Your Buddha or Other Buddhist Amulets

We don’t buy any Buddha or other Buddhist amulets from anywhere other than the temples we visit. We have had a lot of people recently asking us to buy their amulets from here or there. We just don’t buy any from outside the temples we know and respect.

The possibility for fake amulets is very high in Thailand and even higher outside Thailand. If you want cheap and fake amulets you can go to eBay. We saw some similar to ours that were selling very cheaply. These were made at jewelers, and not the temples. Please understand that some of the amulets on eBay are selling for less than we can even get at the temple. What that means is… fake amulets on Ebay.

So, if you want genuine Buddha amulets – we have them. If you want fakes – there are fakes of the original authentic amulets all over Ebay – we just saw some there. Go have a look if you are not Buddhist and don’t require the real amulets.

Why would you want the real ones then?

Good luck to you…

Very rare white jade Buddha - in the Som Dej style.

Jade Buddhas!

Very rare white jade Buddha - in the Som Dej style.

We have a small group of these rare (unique) white jade Buddhas from a remote Thailand Buddhist temple.

We have been doing some visiting of remote Buddhist temples in Thailand to see what we could find for awesome amulets to offer you here at Thai Amulet Sales… when we discovered some really cool green jade Buddhas! We have two different kinds of Buddha to show you. We have a very limited number of these – so, when they are gone – they are truly gone. We don’t anticipate the temple having more – or that we’ll be in the same area to buy more if they did make more.

These jade Buddhas are the round (jolly), some say ‘fat’ Buddha that is smiling big. Typically we say these are Chinese Buddhas because that is where this iteration of Buddha came from. There are many Chinese Buddhists in Thailand – and sometimes the monks at the temple will make these round, happy, laughing Buddhas. We’re glad they did – these are some really beautiful amulets for necklaces.

So, that was a couple of months ago. Right – we never put those Jade Buddhas up on the site yet! (No pictures of them here either – yet).

Now, two days ago – we were at one of our favorite remote Buddhist temples in the northeast of Thailand and found a really beautiful collection of “White Jade Buddha Amulets.”  These Buddhas were made from the jade chips created when the temple commissioned a giant 8 foot solid white jade Buddha for their main building – “bot” at the temple. They didn’t want to waste any of the expensive white jade pieces, so they carved them into Som Dej Buddhas! (See top photo).

We were SO lucky to arrive when we did because they still had some left. We quickly bought all we could and we’ll offer these new white Buddhas on our new premium Buddha site: www.AllBuddhas.com shortly.

This is a very limited collection and each jade Buddha in the collection will be sold only with the solid silver cases seen here -

Oh, and one more thing…

Very Rare Petrified Wood Buddha Amulet from Thailand

Millions of years old - ultra-rare petrified wood Buddha amulet from northeastern Thailand

While we were at this temple we saw some brown toned Buddhas in different shapes.

The monk actually brought these Buddhas out from behind the counter. They were not on display – but, when he saw how much I loved the white jade amulets – he thought I’d like these too.

They were beautiful… but I thought they were just glass. Until I picked one of these Buddha amulets up. It was very heavy. Heavier than a rock. I thought – that’s weird…

I asked my wife to ask what it was made out of.

The monk pulled out a large and VERY heavy (I held it) piece of petrified wood from behind the counter. It was millions of years old – and the temple created these Buddha amulets from petrified wood – which has turned to a very dense rock!

So, we bought as much as we could (we needed to go to the ATM) and we got some more exceptional, rare, and totally unique Buddha amulets for you now!

Give us a few days to get these new rare amulets up on the site. These will be part of a special “Sisaket” collection of jade Buddha and petrified wood Buddha amulets. They will be expensive, but guaranteed they are absolutely one of a kind! We are most excited as you can probably tell!

New Thai Amulet Sales Site Design Coming

We decided to redesign the main “www.ThaiAmuletSales.com” site and turn it into a much better formatted, easier to use website. We’ll start work on it tomorrow – well, daylight Thailand-time. For the next 1-2 days the entire site will be in the middle of an overhaul. Expect delays. Expect to be frustrated! Don’t worry, it will all be fixed up in the next couple of days.

We’ll be adding considerably to our Thai amulet, Thai yant flags, Thai amulet necklaces, Thai Buddhist bracelets, Thai Buddhist temple t-shirts, and other Buddhist items from temples here in Thailand.
